It was one of those rare days when i had the chance to catch a foreign movie and "Forgiveness" was one that gave lots of food for ponder.
"A disgraced ex-cops arrival in a small town triggers a cathartic journey of Forgiveness and revenge for himself and the family of the activist he killed."
Tertius Coetzee was the cop, who was filled with guilt for killing the young man who was part of a terrorist group. his guilt consumed him so much to the extend that he had to take pills to sleep and he couldn't focus on anything else. this led him to seek forgiveness from the family of the boy.
The journey to forgiveness wasn't easy. the young man from a small village in South Africa and his father was a fisherman. he was the first child in the family who secured a place in university. one can imagine the hope and dreams that he shouldered of his family. his death devastated his loved ones. his mother went into depression while his siblings were angry. the environment went from bad to worst when Coetzee arrived to their home.
Due to anger, his sister Sannie decided to inform that his brother's best friend, Luke that the murderer was in town. Luke decided that it was time to take revenge. obviously one can already imagine the tragic ending of the story. nonetheless, Mr. Coetzee found the forgiveness he was seeking for.
Forgiveness is such a simple word. it is also not difficult to say "I'm sorry". most of the time, "i'm sorry" is uttered without much thought or sincerity. and often, the phrase is used for offences that are considered minor like dropping someone else' pen, mistaken a person, etc ..
But when we truly have offended someone and really needed forgiveness, how many of us are willing to say "I'm sorry, pls forgive me .." and go all out to repent and be forgiven?
And how many of us have waited for days, weeks, months, years for our loved ones to apologise, to realise that they have hurt us and caused us pain one time or another?
How many also are able to extend the hand of forgiveness when someone seeks it? how many of us are able to let go of our bitterness and allow life to take a better light?
It's not easy to be the person who seeks the forgiveness as well as the person who extends forgiveness . what a challenge it is to be either of the person ...
