Growing up

As the years passed by, we can take for granted a lot of things especially those that are familiar and constant. for example, family members, friends, colleagues, neighbours ... once in a while, life shows you that some things have not changed and that it was indeed good that it didn't change, while the changes that did happen was not so bad after all.

I found out that a friendship could be as warm as it was yesterday even if the friends had not seen each other for years. i found out that common grounds still existed and we could still have conversations and shared as openly as we used to. i found out that we could still argue and disagree, and accept the differences at the end of the day. i found out that despite how worlds apart we are, we are still able to connect.

When i was in my teens, i remembered the adults telling me that it was not easy to have true friends. even one true friend was hard to come by. i count my 29 years and found a number of good friends, people that i've stayed open and transparent, who i know accept and love me as who i am, in all my strengths and weaknesses, and in my ugly and beautiful days.

true friends do not judge me for who i am, or set expectations on how i should behave. instead, they allow me freely to embrace life and give me a helping hand when i need one. when i fall asleep at night, i'm glad to know that i have several numbers i could call at any emergencies and they would come to my rescue.

If life is not about lives, then what is?
