The arrival of a new decade

I turned 30 today. it was a rather un-assuming day as i was held back at a meeting for six hours, following which i was stuck in traffic for more than an hour. the day didn't exactly turned out to be how i imagined it to be but it wasn't bad either.

I received some pretty strange wishes. an old friend, who crossed the mark three years earlier, sms-ed me and said "welcome to the journey of reaching 4-0" while another friend called, and said this was the decade when we witnessed how our body deteriorates and our mind loses its vibrancy. so much for anticipation and hope for the new milestone of my life :P

I still haven't really sorted out my thoughts and emotions on reaching 3-0. for sure, i never expected to be where i am now today. the picture i had in my mind when i was 16, imagining i was 30, was a stark constrast. again, not necessarily a bad thing. to me, as i've always reminded myself and others, age is just a number. no one can tell you that it's the time to be grown up, or this is the year you get wiser. YOU, YOURSELF, would have to decide how you wish to be.

I remember my 20s as a time of discovery and knowing myself, realising my strengths and weaknesses, and areas that i would like to improve. there were moments i was proud of, some i didn't, mistakes made, awkward moments, and many that i would never regret doing. i believe i've done justice to my life, living the way i did. perhaps i could have done more, which yes, i could, but i didn't do any less hence it's alright to know that i've done whatever i've chosen to do.

I've been blessed in life, knowing many individuals who have been real and showed their heart to me. most of them have walked with me for most part of 20s and some even longer than that. i'm grateful that i had the privillege to laugh often and cry hard many times. laughter is not necessarily joy and tears are not always sadness.

Here's to joining the 3-0 bandwagon, of becoming a better person, daughter, friend and Christian. may i always remember to be foolish and silly, and to embrace myself as who i am ... :O) CHEERS!
