Men & their fast cars

I finally caught a glimpse of men and their fast cars. thanks to a generously sponsored ticket from Petronas, which my editor declined but gave it to me, i was able to attend Formula 1 Grand Prix Malaysia for the first time last Sunday.

The event was definitely an eye-opener -- what is there not to be excited about with so much testerones running about :)

i went alone (cos i had only one tix) but found myself meeting some new people and yakking away. the 5 hours at the Sepang International Circuit were not wasted at all. i enjoyed the environment, the excitement and the crowd.

Food & drinks were at international prices. a hotdog cost RM15 (Eur3) and a bottle of mineral water at RM5 (Eur1). definitely a market for tourists. thankfully, my kind host provided lunch and free flow of water so i had a jolly good time eating my fish & chips and having two bottles of water with me throughout the race.

Since i had almost zero knowledge on FI cars and their drivers (the only person i know is Alonso and Schumacher) i was thankful for my next-door neighbour who had so kindly pointed out the different cars to me. also, i had very good seats (facing the podium) so i had a good view of the drivers when they first came out and greet the crowd two hours before the race.

The race was definitely noisy but thank God for ear-plugs (also sponsored by host) so my poor ears were still in working order at the end of the 56 laps. the funny thing was, i managed to catch some cat nap amid the noise and heat :) proud to say, my ability to sleep anywhere, anytime has once again come in handy :) but then again, it could be i got bored with Renault leading the race all the way.

This is probably my first and last live F1 cos i doubt i would pay that much just to hear the loud engine sound. still, it was worth my Sunday time :)
