Today I went to watch F1 courtesy of Malaysia Airports. like last year, it was a sunny and extremely warm day. but unlike last year, i wasn't overwhelmed by the excitement in the atmosphere. instead, i thought it was rather quiet this year compared to previously. or maybe, it's just me having less excitement.
I sat in the corporate suite this year. this means i got to watch the race in an air-conditioned room and didn't have to tolerate the screeching tyres under the hot sun. not only that, i get free flow of drinks and ample of food throughout the race :o)
I was rather disappointed last year that i didn't get to capture some of the moments on camera so this time, i snapped away and took every opportunity to take pictures. the only downside is that this time i wasn't sitting close to the paddock hence i couldn't take a picture of the cars lined-up when they started the race. oh well, guess i can't have everything :o)
Altho' i know nothing about F1 and who's who, i am impressed with the technology and skills behind the whole affair. when the drivers take a stop pit, their team members would take seconds just to fix the car - put in more fuel, change tyres, and what other stuff they do. i counted. Schumacher's team took 6.9 seconds, Alfonso's took slightly less ... amazing!
For the car to go so fast, it is not just about the driver behind the wheel. it comprises of everyone, from the engineer, mechanics, technicals, etc ... to me, it's technology performing at its best. to watch every team work is simply a sight to behold. i wonder at the guy who created F1. he must really liked cars and technology :O)
I don't know if i'd get to go again next year but one should witness the race at least once in a lifetime. yes, it's darn expensive but nothing beats the real-life experience :)
