One more got hitched

M got married last Saturday. it was the auspicious July 7th, or so they believed. C, E, Y and i got together and attended the wedding. there were three events on the same day. the first was the akad nikah (solemnisation of vows) in the morning at 9AM. the bersanding (blessings ceremony) was in the afternoon at 2PM and the party at night.

We decided to go for the middle occassion as we were too lazy to wake up early and too dark to drive to her place at night. the bride stays at this little suburban area in Selangor state. almost literally a kampung (village).

M was nervous when we found her in the room getting ready to receive the groom. he arrived early. the sound of kompang (drums) serenaded the home as he arrived with the rest of his family members. M took a last look of herself in the mirror, took a quick picture with us and went out to meet her man. Her colour was of bronze, which went quite nicely with the white and yellow crysanthemums.

After they took their place at the "throne", family members took turns to bless the couple. Malay traditions require blessings of rice and spice on the palms of the couple's hands. i had the honour of partaking in this affair :)

The girls and i had some funny moments taking more pix and checking out the hantaran (gifts from the groom and bride to each other). the bride presented 11 gifts to the groom and the groom gave her 9. it's a tradition that the gifts were in even numbers with the man receiving more (lucky him!)
