Day 8
When money speaks louder than words and leaders pursue self interest above the greater good, the society is in a critical condition.

Today as i witnessed the frustration of the people crying for help, I wondered if their cause would ever be heard. Commercial interest seem to overtake social benefit, and those lacking in power are the ones that suffer. even if the issue were to be brought to court, there is little confidence that it could side the weak. if it did, it would probably take several years before the case could close. at the mean time, residents will continue to suffer by bearing the financial burden in a situation where they had very little influence or control.

Control seems to be the key word. those who manage to seize control are kings. they hold the key to every issue and therefore could take advantage of the situation. when too much power is put on a certain individual or group, it becomes a vulnerable condition for the rest.

A friend told me today that the country should be run by professionals. in that way, there is very little room for corruption and upholding of personal interest. transparency and accountability would be vital in running the country. as such, every taxpayer would have the right to know how their money are spent and if the resources were utilised in the best way.

One person claimed that in order to be able to initiate change, he has to be on the side that is most likely going to win. this is because winners get to take all and decide on policies, framework, rules and regulations. the power to make decisions would then be the best opportunity to change things. however, often times, when that opportunity presents itself, not many actually initiate the change that needed to take place.

The road to Rome is not in a day. but do we have to wait another 50 years to see a better and greater transparency in the Government? do we have to wait another five decades before the public system is running on better efficiency? or maybe we have to wait for another ten elections before our leaders actually listen to us? when will we lose the short-sightedness and realise that being selfish will just hold the country back? and we can't afford to be left behind because in this times of globalisation, staying competitive is the only way that will keep us forward. we might not have another 50 years to waste our resources ...
