I was told recently that employment is a dignified transaction between the company and the employee. The company is willing to pay a salary for a person who it thinks could bring value to the business and in return, the person meets the expectation of the job. Perhaps taking pride in one's job is a phrase that is losing its meaning in the present times of running the rat race and doing it the smartest way one can. I'm reminded of a friend's comment couple of years ago, "If you're gonna be stuck in a shit hole, might as well be paid more for it."
If the world forgets what it means to be humane, then we'd all become robots of sort. Kami yang menurut perintah ... If we forget that work can be meaningful (depending on how we view it) and of value, then day in, day out, we're just walking zombies, trying to pass the day as quickly as we can.
Let's try to remember that the reason why the company we work is still paying us a salary is because we're still useful. Otherwise, we might as well pack our bags and try to live on social welfare. Wait, that's not possible too, cos this is not the US. Ahh, darn, I guess it's back to the drawing board.
